THE PAST

Memories can bring about very pleasant feelings, as well as very uncomfortable ones. Regardless of the content of these recollections and the emotions they evoke, we must not allow ourselves to dwell or overindulge in them no matter how positive they may be; you see it ultimately boils down to living in the past, and this is not good for our spiritual and yes material growth.
We have all heard that we can learn from past experiences, that history is a wonderful teacher, that there is no better predictor to future results (or consequences) than past results on similar actions or circumstances, and this is all true ...however there is more to it than meets the eye.

If in fact it is OK to reminisce, it is vital to our well being to stay focused on the present. When we drift towards living in the past, we are not allowing ourselves to close chapters in our existential journey, much like reading the same chapter in a book over and over again. When our life is the subject matter it gets even more complex, for as opposed to a book in a person's life, future chapters are frequently written as past ones conclude; it is a very dynamic process.

We can make the past a gentle and inspiring companion, however there is great risk of it becoming a tyrant if we lower our guard on our sense of awareness. If the past takes over our life and our spiritual energy, it will inevitably choke our present, and this will in turn hinder our future. If we permit this to happen the future chapters in our lives will at best be a series of blank voids, at worst they will be marred by senseless existential mumbling which will stifle the development of our maximum and true potential, it will not let us attain the spiritual jewels that are meant for us and it will keep us in the dark.
Learning from the past does not in any way mean living in it, it merely means using the experiences of what was once the present to forge your mental and spiritual database, upon which you will of course draw, just like you would from a bank account when you need to invest; the difference with this life database as opposed to money is that as long as you are healthy it does not diminish, quite the contrary it grows with each passing day. However this cant't happen if you insist on living in the past, on not finishing and closing chapters, on not moving on, knowing in your heart that there are better things to come. Yes you will still encounter unpleasant situations in the future, these are simply opportunities for growth, just take them for what they are worth and keep in mind that their face value is frequently deceitful. Let them become a part of your spiritual wealth and nothing more, then again you can move on to still another chapter.

As you you continue this journey called life, and do so with awareness, focus, compassion, knowledge and most importantly with a true and strong belief in yourself, and in the fact that we are part of a oneness, a magnificent universal energy which allows us all to achieve anything we set our minds to, regardless of how lofty these goals may be; then and only then will you truly move to a more fulfilling life, one with wellness, with spiritual and material growth ...in short a blissfull and enlightened life, at which point you will have accrued both spiritual and tangible material wealth. More importantly though it is the fact that by then you will have yourself become a jewel of the universe and a source of light to others.
Therefore please remember to be grateful to the past, live the present, move on to the future with true unfaltering belief in yourself and live fulfilled in bliss and light.
